Safe Sanitation

Safe sanitation is the most basic of all hygiene intervention to achieve if family health is to be improved. All Community Health Club members work together to ensure that their members meet the following standards

  1. All adult, child and baby excreta is deposited immediately in a latrine or buried (cat sanitation)
  2. The latrine hole is properly covered or sealed so flies cannot access the pits
  3. The latrine is clean and hygienic: no excreta or urine around the hole
  4. The latrine does not smell: it is properly ventilated or ash is used to cover excreta
  5. Latrines and septic tanks are at least 30 meters away from water sources, and 1.5 meters above the water table
