Definition:
Community Health Clubs (CHC) are groups of 30-100 voluntary members who improve WASH practices in the area, through shared knowledge and understanding, resulting in positive hygiene behaviour change and social capital. With weekly health sessions, for at least six months the group makes informed decisions and together improve their own standards of hygiene and living conditions.
Adaptations
Although Community Health Clubs were initially used in rural community, there are now countless examples where the concept has been used in another context. We therefore describe CHCs in the following categories
Rural Community Health Clubs (Classic)
Urban Community Health Clubs (UCHC)
Emergency Community Health Clubs (eCHC)
School Health Clubs (SHC)
Food, Agriculture & Nutrition Clubs (FAN)
Community Health & Empowerment Clubs (CHEC)
