CHC GRADUATIONS 2010

ZimAHEAD is facilitating  Community Health Clubs graduation days in Chiredzi starting 14 -18 June where 3900 CHC members are graduating after 6 months of PHHE. The residents confirm we have managed the unexpected. The urban and rural authorities have requested that we keep going but we are moving out due to funding lifespan. We leave behind a capacitated community.

Over the 6 months the outputs have been:

  • over 3 900 refuse pits
  • over 3000 pot racks
  • over 4000 hand wash facilities-tippy tapes
  • cleaner households
  • safe water storage and use
  • 235 self initiated toilets with no subsidies
  • over 1000 temporary toilets
  • community at various safe stages of the sanitation ladder
  • over 1000 new nutrition gardens
  • a community in COMMON-UNITY for health with increased responsibility, authority and control over their own health
  • increased KAPP and a  community committment to maintain this momentum
  • reduced morbidity and mortality in the community (to quote one satisfied beneficiary in ward 17)

The offices of the DEHO, the District Administrator and other government structures in Chiredzi are full of praise for what ZimAHEAD in collaboration with OGB have done in their district.

One needs to see it to appreciate the power of community action.
